Mysteries Unit - we will begin the Spanish component of the integrated unit.

 

In Spanish, students will explore the mysteries left behind by ancient civilizations in South America.

 

We will examine the geoglyphs of Peru left behind by the Nazca peoples; the lengend of El Dorado in Colombia and the supposed gold that is left to be dug up;

 

and the gigantic moai statues on Easter Island. While learning the fascinating stories that go along with each artifact, we will attempt to arrive at reasonable

 

theories of purpose, whereabouts as well as 'who' was responsible for such marvelous, historical wonders.

 

29 y 30 Abril

We will continue exploring our Mysteries of South America.

 

1 Mayo

We will take a field trip to the supermarket in order to discover the Latin Food aisle! This will

be our destination after we visit the Raptor Center with Mrs. Denham.  Students may want to bring a few dollars if they wish to purchase

a fruity beverage or candy from the Latin aisle.

Culture:  Frida Kahlo

This week we will take an in-depth look at the eccentric works by Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo.

Each student will be assigned to research one of her pieces.

 

miér. 1 Abril  Students will present their findings on the Kahlo piece they were assigned.

Notes from research will be collected, remember to include the websites. Students should speak for at least 2 minutes

and explain what the piece depicts along with the symbolism or message Kahlo may have wanted to portray.

 

2 Abril  We will begin with -ER verbs!

This week, we will continue practicing -AR verb conjugation.

-AR verb vocab. list - students should learn the meanings of these new verbs.

We will make verb flash cards the students can use outside of class.

11 & 12 FEBRERO 2009

This week, we will begin Verb Conjugation, which is the most important skill students will learn this year.

It is pertinent that all students master this skill.  I will offer after school work shops starting the end of February.

Students need to study their notes and practice conjugation. 

H.w. Take home portfolio, have a parent view it, sign it, and return it 2/12.

Write 4 original sentences in your journal with the newly learned verbs - remember to use a Subject Pronoun and then

a CONJUGATED verb - due 2/12 

H.W:  Complete the worksheet we started in class - do the -AR verb conjugation sections. Due Wed. 2/18.

This week, we will finish reading an excerpt from Cervantes' Don Quixote de la Mancha.

Vocabulary activity from Quixote.

Comparison of the realist/idealist elements from the story.

Prep for TEST - students will quiz on Spain and Don Quixote this Thursday TEST WILL BE OPEN-NOTEBOOK. 

H.W: Study Spain notes, foods, & Quixote vocab.  OPEN NOTES TEST ON THURSDAY, 1/29.

It will cover ALL notes on Spain (from the power point) and all notes on Don Quixote.

Students may use their own notes only, their journals and their D.Q. packet (the reading).

They should come to class prepared with all materials.  The test is 2 pages with short answer (3-4 sentences).
