Bring any research completed in SS to LA tomorrow  to start drafting your speeches.  Bring computers to class tomorrow. Read "Half-City Jiangs" and annotate.

-Writing workshop:  Speech writing -- narrowing our topic and completing a persuasion map.

Look through all chapters from "Propaganda Wall" to "Half-City Jiangs" searching for evidence as to what the characters are like and how they've changed.  Place spirals and deltas in book as needed.

-Create our public speaking rubric.

Prompt #1: Think about Ji-Li’s conflict about whether or not to help her Aunt Xi-wen on page 142.  Describe a moment when you had to make a difficult decision.
Prompt #2: Instead of happily heading off to Junior High, Ji-Li is forced to grow up quickly in Red Scarf Girl, taking on her family’s chores.  What was a "coming of age" moment in your life that forced you to "grow up" a little?
3.    Way of the Warrior final draft due Monday, October 27, 2008.  Paperclip in this order:  Final Draft, Rough Draft(s), self-assessed rubric.

  1. "RR - Woodlawn Da-zi-bao!”  Prompt:  It's Monday Morning and you walk into class at Woodlawn School at 8:15 only to discover that there are no teachers!  The government has removed them because it considers them a bad influence, and it wants you to write letters denouncing them. Think about what happens in RSG and continue the story about what might happen here (at least one full page)
  2. Read “The Red Successors” in RSG, filling out your bookmark.

RR in LA Handbook titled "RR -- Letter from Edo."  Prompt:  Pretend you are someone who lives in Edo – a merchant, the fabric shop owner, a samurai, a geisha, a craftsman, etc.  Research the possible characters using the PBS website.  Taking on the voice of your character, write a letter to your family in another city describing the fires.   It should be at least 3 paragraphs.

Here is your prompt:  Due to a time warp, you have the opportunity to meet Sei Shonagon!  Write a skit  about your interaction with her.  Describe the setting and be sure to create a situation in your skit that allows me to see things that you have in common and Shonagon’s unique characteristics.  It should be interesting and thorough, and at least one full page.
