The goal of Spanish at the second grade level is to provide the students with meaningful, context-rich, and enjoyable opportunities to hear and use Spanish.  Students build a basic vocabulary around categories, which includes the calendar, numbers, body parts, clothing, foods, planets & geography terms while learning how to ask and answer basic questions related to each unit.  Key phrases and commands are also taught throughout the year. A number of cognates (similar words English/Spanish) are continuously presented as well. Integrated units include a study of Farm Life (with Social Studies) and Latin American climate, seasons & natural wonders (with Science).

It is important that students become familiar with the Spanish language and culture so that they become open-minded to diversity at a young age.

The learning process is reinforced through songs, games, visuals, role play, and repetition. Home reinforcement is welcomed and encouraged through the playing of interactive online games.  Links to the games are posted on the class page.
