May 28th-May 31st

This week, weather permitting, we'll continue to enjoy some outdoor activities. Balls, balloons, and bubbles will add to the fun as we engage in a variety of end-of-year activities.

May 20th-May 24th

This week the children will enjoy a variety of activities during an Open Gym time. Skills we've practiced throughout the year will be featured and include throwing, bowling, shooting, jumping rope, and hula hooping. As always, teamwork and fair play will be emphasized. Also this week, the children will enjoy Field Day on Friday, 5/24. The theme this year is Passport Around the World. Ask your child which activity was their favorite!

May 13th-May 17th

This week we are taking advantage of the gorgeous weather and moving some of our favorite games outside. Our hula hoops, playground balls, and parachute will provide lots of fun - some structured, some not. Also this week, the children will play Bouncer. Bouncer is a cooperative game in which the children are challenged to bounce tennis balls into solo cups held by their teammates. Each child will rotate through all of the positions. This activity requires patience and communication -- great skills for developing teamwork.

May 6th-May 10th

Games this week include Man From Mars in which students work on their listening skills (as well as their sprinting!) as the man from Mars only invites students wearing ______ color to travel to the stars.  Sailors & Sharks and Hospital Tag are other running/evading games that the students will play. Finally, Stacks will have the children working in teams to knock the other team's stacks of solo cups down by sliding bean bags at them.  (I will be out on Wednesday and Thursday of this week on a personal matter. A substitute teacher has been secured for those days. I will let the children know ahead of time what to expect while I am gone.)

April 29th-May 3rd

Students began the week with a game of Go For the Gold. Strategy and speed were both important as players attempted to grab the gold and get back to their starting line without getting tagged by their partner. Also this week, the students learned to play Hunter Hawks. Hula hoops represented trees. Hawks "flew" from tree to tree, always trying to get to their new tree home before one of the tree-less hawks swooped in and took their place.

April 22nd-April 26th

This week students will enjoy a new game called PowerballIn this game each team works cooperatively to try to move several large fitness balls across the other team's baseline by throwing volleyballs at the fitness balls. Power is important but so is aim. Communication is also key, as team's must talk amongst themselves to be sure that volleyballs are where they are most urgently needed to defend the baseline. Also this week, the children will revisit Skunk Tag and Blasterball.

April 15th-April 19th

The children started this week with a rousing replay of Skunk Tag. Also this week, we'll play a variety of baseball-themed games. The students will each have the chance to practice their batting skills with noodles and noodlettes. They will also each have the chance to practice throwing and catching with a partner in our Catch & Step activity. Finally, a game of Blasterball will have the students batting, running, and cooperatively passing a ball.

April 8th-April 12th

This week the children learned a new game called Skunk Tag in which the skunks tagged the rabbits as long as the rabbits weren't safe in their rabbit holes. Also this week, the children learned Spaghetti & Meatballs, a game in which they used (pool) noodles to knock meatballs (foam balls) through their opponents' legs. Next week, we'll be learning many other fun activities that creatively use pool noodles so, should you have any old noodles lying about that you would like to donate, they would be much appreciated!

March 25th-March 29th

This week the students will warm up with two favorite activities: Frogger and the Up/Down Challenge. Games will include Aerobic Bowling, in which students will develop cardiovascular fitness and aiming skills as they work in groups of three, constantly rotating roles within the group, to knock a pin down as many times as possible within a given time period, and a new game called Jet Ball, another running and dodging game.

Have a wonderful SPRING BREAK everyone!
