Social Studies: This week we will continue to look at the location of some of the countries involved in WWII as we read and discuss Mr. dePaola's books in our reader's workshop. This is an extention and a continuation of our study of the continents and geography.

Spelling: Core Words Pre-assessment, Pattern of the Week and Cloze Passage

Social Studies: This week we will continue to look at the location of some of the countries involved in WWII as we read and discuss Mr. dePaola's books in our reader's workshop. This is an extention and a continuation of our study of the continents and geography.

Writer's Workshop: Further discussion and review of the parts of 'The Writing Process' and continuation of the writing of our Autobiography

Spelling: Focus on the concept of: 'words with short vowel sounds are usually spelled with only one vowel'
Daily Grams and Grammar Tales will include a review of 'pronouns' this week.

Writer's Workshop: Review the Writing Process!! Continue work on Autobiography, publishing Part 1; Pre-write, draft Part 2
Introduction to pronouns: Read and complete activities with the books 'The Planet without Pronouns' and 'The Princess and the Pronouns'
Daily Grams will focus on Capitalization of bodies of water, antonyms, review of nouns, verbs and adjectives and adding prefixes to root words.
On Friday we will have a Daily Grams quiz over topics studied this week.

Spelling: Continue work on Unit 4 of Spelling
Focus on the concept that some sounds are spelled more than one way specifically focusing on 'ou' vs 'ow' words
There will be a 'Cloze' test on Friday. You will fill in the blanks in a paragraph with the correct spelling of 'ou' or 'ow' words that we have studied this week.

Social Studies: Review continents, oceans, latitude, longitude, etc. this week. Begin looking at regions of the United States. Begin book called 'Mapping ABC Style'--reviews and reinforces key concepts presented the past 2 weeks in SS

| Reader's Workshop: On My Way In your nightly reading this week, focus on identifying nouns, verbs and adjectives within the reading passages. Pick out some common nouns, proper nouns, verbs and adjectives and write these on the paper that accompanies your timed readings each night. |

Writer's Workshop: Continue work on Autobiography; Reinforce parts of speech including Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives; Daily Grams
On Friday we will have a Daily Grams quiz over topics studied this week.

Writer's Workshop: Continue work on Autobiography; Focus on adjectives this week. Read Hairy, Scary, Ordinary and Quirky, Jerk, Extra Perky by Brian P. Cleary
Complete 'Grammar Tales' The Bug Book in class.

Spelling: Be able to spell hundred, thousand, million; continue practice on 'they're, their and there'
Work on Unit 3 of Spelling
Focus on the concept that short vowel sounds are usually spelled with one vowel, long vowel sounds are usually spelled with two vowels, and some special sounds are spelled more than one way (ie. 'ou' as in out vs. 'ow' as in how--same sound, different spellings)
