Fourth Grade Art
Instructor: Jackie Royce
Curriculum Map
The fourth grade art curriculum begins with a focus on North Carolina Art. We look at crafts that are well known in the Mountain, Piedmont, and Coastal Regions of North Carolina. We examine techniques used by various artists and discuss how these techniques can be incorporated into the students’ work. This exploration and imitation helps students develop a style all their own. In fourth grade, we continue to build on the art terminology in order to develop a strong artistic vocabulary.
Guiding questions:
- What are different types of art native to North Carolina?
- What is style? How do people have different styles?
- How can art tell a story?
- How does art help you tell your story?
Focus areas:

- Demonstrating ease in using a variety of media
- Use of art vocabulary
- Develop critical and creative thinking skills
