Synopsis:

The Fourth Grade Spanish curriculum focuses on community and what that encompasses for different groups of people.  Throughout the school year, students examine communities, neighborhood and urban life in Latin America - comparing & contrasting that with their own. Students take an in-depth look at Mexico, D.F - one of the largest cities in the world as they learn map-reading skills and look at the historical (sometimes ancient) sites throughout this giant metropolis.

Fourth Graders also look at the history of Latinos in NC in conjunction with Social Studies.  Other integrated units include a study on Hispanic Heroes (with Social Studies & Life Skills) and a project examining Latin American flags, capital cities, and tourism in Latin America. 

Key phrases are taught throughout the school year and a focus on cognate knowledge is continuously presented. Students at this level begin to do more reading comprehension activities - learning to focus on cognate knowledge as they interpret what they read.

By the end of the year, students should be able to converse about daily things such as day, date, weather, school life, and carry on with basic conversational greetings. 

4th Graders should expect to have some homework.

It is important for 4th grade students to simply review material learned in class with a parent or sibling even when no homework is given.
