At the Fourth Grade level, students are introduced to basic grammar, including the gender of words, main verbs and personal pronouns. They begin to use basic conversational greetings, commands, and polite phrases. Students build a vocabulary foundation around categories, which includes school routine & subjects, sports, city & neighborhood, country flags, modes of transportation and using big numbers while learning how to ask and answer basic questions related to each unit. Key phrases and commands are also taught throughout the year. A number of cognates (similar words English/Spanish) are continuously presented as well. Integrated units include a study on Hispanic Heroes (with Social Studies & Life Skills). Other projects examine Latin American flags and take an in-depth look at capital cities and tourism.

The learning process is reinforced through songs, games, visuals, role play, and repetition. Home reinforcement is welcomed and suggested through the playing of interactive, online games.  The links are be posted on the class page.
