Wednesday - Begin our new free verse poems using our character revisions that we made in LA.

 

Friday - Type our poems. Journal entry about walking in my shoes project, also what would someone else realize if they walked in our shoes.

Monday - Work on our game boxes for Plaza Road.

 

Wednesday - Finish our center boxes for Plaza Road.

 

Friday - No class. Service Learning trip to Plaza Road.

 

April 14-18

 

Monday - Work on our free verse poems for our walking in their shoes character.

 

Wednesday - Begin putting together our game boxes for Plaza Road Preschool.

 

Friday - Work on our game boxes for Plaza Road Preschool.

 

April 7-11

 

Monday - Read The Story of Ruby Bridges by Dr. Robert Coles.

 

Tuesday - Journal about the people we learned about in Ruby's life including Ruby. Focus on putting ourselves in other people's shoes.

 

Wednesday - Interview a member of our class about their feelings, their strengths, their weaknesses, and what its like to live a day in their shoes.

 

Thursday - Write a free verse poem about the class member we interviewed. Begin writing a free verse poem about the character we developed to fill the shoes we picked out.

 

Friday - No Class. Trip to Levine Museum.

 

March 31-Apr. 4

 

Monday - With a partner, research events on page 55 of Ruby Bridges.

 

Wednesday - Present presentations on the event that you researched.

 

Friday - Write individually about what you have learned about these events.

Monday - Read pages 46-51 in Through My Eyes by Ruby Bridges. Write a story about a day in the life of Ruby Bridges from Ruby's perspective.

 

Wednesday - Read pages 52-55 in Through My Eyes by Ruby Bridges.

 

Friday - No School - Begin Spring Break

Monday - Read Through My Eyes by Ruby Bridges pages 8-23. Class Discussion.

 

Wednesday - Literature Circles on pages 24-39 of Through My Eyes by Ruby Bridges.

 

Thursday - Internet research on school segregation.

 

March 3-7

 

Monday - Present our collages.

 

Wednesday - Finish our "Sneetches"-style poem and illustration. Begin writing our first person point of view stories on prejudice.

 

Friday - Begin reading Through My Eyes by Ruby Bridges.

 

Feb. 24-29

 

Monday - Continue work on our collages.

 

Wednesday - Continue working on our collages.

 

Friday - Finish our collages.

Monday - President's Day - School closed

 

Wednesday - Continue working on our Sneetches-style poem and illustrations.

 

Friday - Begin creating our collages on racism and prejudice around the world.

Monday - Read "The Sneetches" by Dr. Suess and create our own poem in the same style addressing the themes of discrimination, prejudice, and segregation.

 

Wednesday - Narrow and focus our research on prejudice around the world.

 

Friday - No School.

Monday - Research prejudice, racism and discrimination in the countries we chose.

 

Wednesday - Inclusion/Exclusion activity.

 

Thursday - Research prejudice in the countries we chose.
