You parents are invited to art studio on June 2nd to help you glaze your bird houses and to see your most recent artwork. (See Woodlawn Notes) 

 

Art and Ecology

Monday June 1

We will look at examples of performance art.  You will work in a team to perform an ecological process.

Tuesday June 2

We will set-up for our art show and work on our performance art pieces.  Remember to invite your parents to the glazing studio and art show today. 

 

Homework for this week:

Please photograph all of the walls in your bedroom.  If you do not have a camera you may check one out from the art room.  You may need to take more than one photo of each wall if it does not fit into one photo.  You will piece these together to create a panoramic view.  

To turn them in do one of the following:  

1.  Save the photos on your USB and transfer them to my computer.

2.  Save the photos on your desktop and transfer them to me using my USB

3.  Send your photos to me in an email as jpegs.  

4.  Print them in color (4x6 minimum size).

Week of May 25

This week we will photograph natural sculptural pieces and create our own pieces from found objects that symbolize an ecological concept

You will work with your peers on a collaborative performance project that creatively interprets an ecological process.     We will glaze our pottery birdhouses today.

Tuesday  4.28.09

In Class:  Continue presentations of art movements - Surrealism.  Finish art pieces based on Fauvism and create your very own piece in the style of Cubism.

 

 

Homework:  To prepare for our Surrealism lesson next Tuesday, please keep a dream journal and attach it to you sketchbook.  Keep your journal by your bed and if you remember any of your dreams during the next week, jot them down in your journal.  You may also include “day dreams”. 

  

Tuesday  4.21.09

In Class:  Studio day for Fauvism.  Finish tracing lines with India ink and fill in your wild colors.  Presentation of Cubism style.

 

Friday 4.24.09

In Class:   Studio day to finish Fauvism

 

 

Tuesday  4.14.09

In Class:  Continue presentations of art movements.  Create art pieces based on Fauvism.

In Class:   Studio day to complete Fauvism pieces. 

 

 

Birds

 

Tuesday  3.24.09

In Class:  Migratory Birds - Today we will complete our migratory bird art piece by putting our collage items on the mat board and printing our birds on the top layer.  Then we will discuss our trip to the Mint and the requirements for a mini presentation about your chosen artist that you will present to your peers.

 

 

Homework:  For next Tuesday, bring in a library book of your chosen artist.  You may not find a book just on your artist but they may be included in a larger book of several artists.  Please bring your computers to class next Tuesday if you have one.

 

 

Friday 3.27.09

In Class:   We will look at Impressionism and create an artwork based on that style. 

 

 

Tuesday 3.31.09

In Class:  Bring book about your artist to class.  Create a presentation about your chosen artist for your peers.  You may use any format for your presentation but you must include visuals. 

 

Tuesday 3.17.09

In Class:  Migratory Birds - We will work on our collage and finish creating our birds.

Prepare for our trip to the Mint Museum on Friday. 

 

Homework:  Please remember to return the art survey completed by your parents by March 25th.

 

 

Tuesday 3.13.09

In Class:  Migratory Birds - We will look at examples of how artists have represented birds.  We will then discuss ways to create an artwork that represents the wonders and challenges of bird migration.  

 

Homework:  Bring in items on Friday that relate to birds that you may want to include in your collage.  

 

Friday 3.13.09

In Class:  Studio day to finish bird drawings and create background based on information you learned from Winged Migration.  Complete a questionnaire about your creative experiences and your thoughts on art class.  

 

Homework:  Please ask your parents to complete the art questionnaire and return it to me Monday, March 16th  or to Nancy’s office.    

Color

Tuesday  2.24.09

In Class:  Discuss how color has influenced you in the past week (homework assigned last Tuesday).  Finish color wheels.  Studio time to finish Loop projects or begin Color My Days project. 

 

Homework:  Finish project and writing for “The Loop” due March 3rd.

 

Tuesday  3.3.09

Finish Color my Days. Complete portfolio reflection/assessment. Prepare for portfolio review. 

 

 

 

Art of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance

In Class:  Share pages of our Leonardo Notebooks - turn those in today.  Complete portraits and mosaics.  Introduction to projects for “The Loop”.

In Class:  Learn the technique of one point perspectives.  Draw portraits of yourself with your Renaissance Friend in a background based on perspective technique

Week of January 5 2009

Tuesday 

In Class:  Western Art History - Look at artwork of the Middle Ages and compare and contrast to Renaissance - put notes in Leonardo Notebook.  Begin preliminary work of mosaic on plaster tiles. 

Friday

In Class:  Studio day for mosaics.  Create tiles, complete details drawings in Leonardo Notebook. 

 

Homework:  Bring photo of yourself and of your Renaissance Mind to class on Friday.  May be a copy of a photograph and does not need to be in color. 

 

 

 

Fairy Tale Sculpture

 

Week of 12.1.08

In Class:  Add color and texture to Architectural drawings.   Begin to work on set of fairy tale sculpture.

 

Week of 12.8.08

In Class:  Glaze pottery pieces and finish setting for Fairy Tale Sculpture.

 

Week of 11.17.08

In Class:  Introduction to Clay.  Vocabulary, tips and techniques.  Bring your fairy tale characters to life.  Finish up your architectural drawings. 

 

Homework:  Bring in a hardcover children’s story book as a foundation for your clay pieces.  We will look at acceptable examples in class. 

 

Week of 11.10.08

In Class:  Continue looking at history of architecture. Finish drawing your wooden structures and add value to your buildings. 

 

Due next Tuesday 11/11  (approximate time - 45 minutes)

Homework:  Complete preliminary work for the building you are designing.  You need to find three small photos from the following website of three different characteristics that you want to include in your building.  Please print these photos and glue into your classwork section of your sketchbook.  Also record what building it is.  You can choose characteristics from the following styles:

Ancient Egyptian

Ancient Greek

Ancient Roman

Middle Ages - Castles

                     Islamic

                     Romanesque

                     Gothic

Renaissance

Then do three preliminary drawings of your building design.  (small sketches).

Architecture

Week of 10.27

In Class:  Introduction to classical architecture.  View the i-movies the 6th grade students made last year.  Finish drawing your wooden structures and add value to your buildings.

 

Ecology and Art

Week of 10.20

In Class:  Drawings of invertebrates.  We will finish and present our pieces.  Then we will move on to drawings based on forms, beginning with ancient Roman structures.

 

In Class:  Eco-pottery.   We will finish glazing our pieces for the auction. 

Insect Art - We will conduct close examinations of our invertebrates from science class.  Then we will create a realistic drawing using pencil and colored pencil.

 

 In Class:  Eco-pottery.   We will develop our designs for our eco-pottery pieces by doing thumbnail sketches and full-size drawings of our pattern.  We will begin to transfer our designs onto the pottery.  We will also share our Sights and Sounds of Woodlawn pieces.

Week of 9.2.08

In class: We will share our experiences with art over the summer.  Please send photos of your summer art work or bring it to class to share.  We will take our sketchbooks around campus and create a series of drawings that capture the sites of Woodlawn.
