Elements of Art 

Week 1

Tuesday 9.1.09

In Class:  We will begin with The Elements of Art, creating 7 miniature works of art, each one emphasizing an element.  

 

COLOR

 

Friday 9.4.09

In Class:  How would our world be different without color?  We will examine different colors and see what emotions they evoke as well as memories and associations with objects, based on your summer reading, The Giver.

 

Week 2 

Tuesday 9.8.09

In Class: Draw out your color wheel and value scale.  We will review and learn new art vocabulary.  Introduction to the color project.   

 

Homework:  Bring in a picture of the animal/object or the actual object you decide to use for your color project. You will work with your peers to analyze your ideas and then present them to the class for discussion.    

 

Friday 9.11.09 

In Class:  We will begin a 2D color project:  Morph from abstract to real, from black and white, to monochromatic, to a color explosion.  

 

Homework:  Remember to bring in a picture of your chosen object or the actual object to work from.

 

Week 3 

Monday 9.14.09

In Class:  Today we will draw out the design for the color project on the three different presentation boards. Remember your picture or actual object to draw from.  

 

Tuesday 9.15.09

In Class:  Color Mixing and Painting. After mixing values for your value scale and colors for your color wheel, you will paint your color project.  

 

Week 4

Monday 9.21.09

In Class:  We will continue to work on our Color Project, working through our monochromatic scheme and then on to our color wheel.  

Tuesday 9.22.09  

In Class:  Finish up the color wheel and work on your burst of color final presentation board.

 

Week 5

Monday 9.29.09

In Class:  Studio day to continue to work on color project

Tuesday 9.30.09

In Class:  Drawing activities and introduction to Peace Poster.

 

Week 6

Monday 10.5.09

In Class:  Assess color project.  Overview of cartooning.  Studio time to develop cartoon character for comic strip in LA.

Tuesday 10.6.09

In Class:  We will draw our animals in science class and prepare for our field trip to the horse barn.  

 

Week 7

Tuesday 10.13.09

In Class: Drawing live animals.  Studio time to work on science animal drawings.  

 

Week 8

Monday 10.19.09

In Class:  Studio time to finish science animal drawings.

 

Tuesday 10.20.09

In Class:  Introduction to Space and Places.  Studio work on combining horse drawings into a final artwork. 

 

Week 9

Monday 10.26.09

In Class:  Studio time to finish horse drawings and service learning reflection.

 

 

Tuesday 10.27.09

In Class:  Continue to look at Spaces and Places. You will research and report on a style of architecture and include the following on a presentation board:

Style

Location

Date

Building Type/Function

Construction System

Identifying characteristics of the style

Visual part

A drawing of your building

A drawing of 2 details (characteristics of the style)
