Week 1, September 3 - 7

 

    Monday - No Class; Labor Day

 

    Tuesday

  • Introduction to the Class.  Course guidelines, binder set-up, and notebook expectations.  Blitz scribble! 
  • HW:  Examine your family as a society.  Take notes on your family's organization, rules, culture, and members.

 

    Wednesday

  • Discuss our familial societies.  Introduction to Daily GRAMS and Vocabulary Workshop.  First grammar and vocabulary quiz:  Friday, September 14th!  Preliminary discussion on Lois Lowry's The Giver.
  • HW:  Read Vocabulary Workshop page 17.  Take the analogy of the day quiz. Then create 10 analogies of your own! 

 

    Thursday - No Class; Field trip to the Greek Festival.  Eat lots of gyros!

 

    Friday

  • Daily Grams.  Vocabulary activity 1.  The Giver discussion:  What is a "utopia"?  Would it be better to live in a society where we are all the same?  Or free of pain? 
  • HW:  None.
