In Spanish Class, students discover who speaks Spanish in the world through an overview of the Spanish-speaking regions and study of Latin American geography. The Golden Age (of Spain) is examined, which leads into an in-depth look at the man behind the legend - Don Quixote de la Mancha. Students also explore the cultural aspects of Hispanic society through food, family, city life, and celebrations (like, Day of the Dead).
Students learn to appreciate a culture outside of their own through the study of Hispanic Heritage Month and a project which focuses on a specific Latin American country. In grammar, students learn how to conjugate verbs along with grammatical basics including article/noun/adjective agreement. Students' culminating project is a one page paper on their family incorporting all the grammar learned within the academic year.
Text: Navegando 1A is an introduction text that aids in the grammar lessons and provides a resource for each vocabulary unit. This text and course are considered Part I of Spanish I. Navegando 1A is a classroom set, however students may
check out a text at any time throughout the school year.
