Plans for the Week of 11/9

Monday

In class: Activity Day: Paint our campus signs with white paint.  Please wear appropriate clothing.  You may wear a paint smock, but you might still get spots on your pants or shoes.

Tuesday

In class: Compare your animal to a sponge.

Homework: Read pp. 19-22 in your textbook.

Wednesday

In class: Cnidarians:  animals with specialized stinging cells.

Thursday

In class: What would it be like to not have a brain: Cnidarians continued.

Friday

In class: No class.

 

Plans for the Week of 11-2

Monday

In class: Sponge Day. Use a computer animation to see the functions of a sponge.

Homework: Read pp. 15-17 of Chapter 1 in your Animals textbook.

Tuesday

In class: Sponge activity.

Wednesday

In class:  Salad Day.

Thursday

In class: Wildlife Garden Day.

Friday

No class because of half day.

Monday

In class: See your care animals in slides.  Prepare for the Animal Diversity Conference. Project due for those who had flu.

Homework: Reflection due Tuesday for all those who had flu.

In class: Last presentation.  Discuss animal characteristics and animal symmetry.

In class: Begin animal research into the classification of each study animal.

Homework: Read pp. 6-9 in the Animals textbook.

In class: Begin animal research. Endothermic vs. ectothermic.

Homework:  Complete Reviewing Key Concept questions on page 11 in complete sentences.

Wednesday

In class: Continue with project research. Obtaining oxygen.

Thursday

In class: Continue with project research.  Life cycle.

Friday

In class: No school.

Monday

In class: Bring habitat for animal care project.  You may bring the animal as well, or if you are getting an animal from the garden or field at school, we will go on a collection walk. 

Homework: If you have forgotten anything for your project, bring it tomorrow.  Bring your library book.

In class: Animal observations. Animal care. Meeting the needs of your animal in captivity. Water and food.  Shelter and adequate space.

In class: Introduce animal care project.

Homework:  Bring letter back on Friday and turn it in even though we don't have class.

In class: Animal care project continued.

In class: No class because of field trip.

Plans for 9/14-9/18

Monday

In class: Work on garden plots.  Make your field map biodiversity card or cards.

Homework: Complete your cards.

Tuesday

In class: Go over quiz.  Work on class field map.

Wednesday

In class: Give out Animals textbook. Complete the class field map. Listen to a Jane Goodall interview about her new book.

Homework: Read pp. 62-64 in your Animals textbook.

Thursday

In class: More ecology vocabulary. Examine grasshoppers as an important insect in the field food web.

Homework: Read pp. 65-67 in your Animals textbook.

Friday

In class: Collect grasshoppers in the field study area and observe them.

6th Grade Science

Monday – Labor Day – No school.

Tuesday

In class: Clear gardens for fall planting.  Discuss field observations.

Wednesday

In class: Begin to make a class map of the study area.

Homework: Study for mini-quiz.

Thursday

In class: Mini-quiz on ecology vocabulary.  Add composted manure to fall gardens.

Friday

No science because of field trip.

In class: Extreme Gardening – Plant fall gardens.

 

1st Week of School

Welcome 6th Graders! 

 

Monday

In class: Introductory setup of binders and garden observations. What is ecology?

Tuesday

In class: Introduction and field observations. Ecology vocabulary.

Homework:  Quiz next Thursday, September 10 on ecology vocabulary.  You can study anytime between now and then!

Wednesday

In class: Ecology field observation discussion.

Thursday

In class: What did we learn about relationships between biotic and abiotic factors? Garden plot assignments will be given out.  Visit your very own garden!

Friday
