In class:  Last class work day on the Roman Architecture project.

In class: Roman Empire reading and timeline.

Homework: Prepare for test by being familiar with your notes.

Thursday

In class: Open-note test on Rome.

Friday

In class:  No class because of half day.

 

 

Plans for the week of 10-26

Monday: Introduction of Public Architecture project.

Tuesday

In class: Learn about the Porta Nigra.  Choose a piece of public architecture for your project.

Wednesday-Friday

In class: Work on our project.

 

Plans for the week of 10-19

Monday

In class: Discuss jobs of government.  One job of government:  public buildings. 

Homework: Bring cereal box for Public Architecture project.

Tuesday

In class: Roman Republic.

Wednesday

In class: Roman Republic.

Thursday

In class: Roman Empire.   Taking notes from a power point.

Friday

In class: The role of architecture in civic pride.  Learn about Ancient Roman public architecture.

 

Plans for the week of 10-12

Monday

No school.

Tuesday

In class: Go over test.  Learn about Alexander the Great.

Homework: This week students may have homework if they have not finished in class.

Wednesday

In class: Learn about Ancient Rome: the republic.  

Thursday

In class: What are the jobs of good government?

Friday

In class: No class because of field trip.

 

Plans for week of 10-5

Monday

In class: Geography of Europe: Review pp. 9-14.  Test on Thursday.  Refer to study guide for this first social studies test.

Homework: Answer questions 1-a, 1-b, 2-a, 2-c only on p. 16.

Tuesday

In class: Review the climates and vegetation of Europe including the Mediterranean climate of Greece.

Wednesday

In class: Review for test.

Homework: Study for your test!

Thursday

In class: Test on European geography and Ancient Greece.  There are no questions about Athens vs. Sparta debate on the test.

Friday

No school.

In class: Ancient Greece timeline.  Prepare for Athens/Sparta debate.

Tuesday

In class: Ancient Greece timeline. Prepare for Athens/Sparta debate.  Practice for debate.

Wednesday

In class: Athens/Sparta debate.

Thursday

In class: Complete Athens/Sparta debate.

Friday

In class: European Geography Day.

Monday

In class: Examine a map of Ancient Greece and try to interpret it.

Tuesday

In class: Learn more about the acropolis. Read about the Parthenon.

Homework: Ask your parents what they know about Ancient Greece.

Wednesday

In class: Athens and Sparta: competing societies and world views.

Thursday

In class: Discuss the Athens vs. Sparta debate which will take place next week.

Friday

In class: No class because of field trip.

Monday

In class:  Discuss our field trip.   Continue our exploration of Ancient Greece.

Tuesday

In class: Continue our exploration of Ancient Greece.

Wednesday

In class: Complete our exploration of Ancient Greece.  Review grading of the social studies journal and other social studies work. Look at the Greek Orthodox Church in Charlotte using Google Maps.

Homework: Complete your exploration of Ancient Greece if you have not done so in class.

Thursday

In class: Discuss Ancient Greece exploration answers.  Why are there multiple correct answers to many questions?  Why are some answers still not correct?  Continue to reflect about Ancient Greece using your notes and text. 

Homework: Complete reflection questions if not done in class.

Friday

In class: More about Ancient Greece: Examine a map of Ancient Greece.  Athens and Sparta.

 

Plans for 9/8-9/11

Monday – Labor Day – No school.

Tuesday

In class: What did we learn from the scavenger hunts and the map comparison about Europe? Do we now know more about Europe?  Write a paragraph:  What and Where is Europe?

Homework: Finish your paragraph or paragraphs.

Wednesday

In class: Discuss Greek foods and the Greek Orthodox Church. Learn about the legacy of Ancient Greece and how this legacy influences Greece today.

Homework:  If you have a computer, please bring it tomorrow. Please bring your computer next week as well.

Thursday

In class: Begin our Odyssey through Ancient Greek Culture.

Friday

In class:  Field trip to Greek Festival.

 

1st Week of School

Monday

In class: Introduction to Europe.  Answer Atlas Scavenger Hunt.

Tuesday

In class: Introduction to European geography.  Finish European Scavenger Hunt.

Homework: Finish class work if not done in class.

Wednesday

In class: What is Europe?  Where is Europe? Discussion.

Thursday

In class: Introduction to Modern Greece.  Answer Atlas Greece Scavenger Hunt.
