ARCHITECTURE AS ACTIVISM

Studio work time for architecture - Complete your finishes presentation board, elevations and perspective

Presentation of Architecture as Activism first period

 

Week of May 25

Wednesday

Studio day for tapestry/floor plan.  

Discuss interior architecture. Learn to do interior drawings.

Begin fabric and finishes board     

 

Homework for this week:

Please photograph all of the walls in your bedroom.  If you do not have a camera you may check one out from the art room.  You may need to take more than one photo of each wall if it does not fit into one photo.  You will piece these together to create a panoramic view.  

To turn them in do one of the following:  

1.  Save the photos on your USB and transfer them to my computer.

2.  Save the photos on your desktop and transfer them to me using my USB

3.  Send your photos to me in an email as jpegs.  

4.  Print them in color (4x6 minimum size).

Present symbol systems, reflect on project.  What makes a symbol universally recognizable?  Were your symbols easily recognized?  Why or why not?  What would you change to make them more effective? How can you apply what you have learned to other areas of you life?

Earth Day

 

Wednesday 4.22.09 

In Class:  Earth Day.  Watch the new documentary “Poisoned Water” to learn about the origins of Earth Day, water pollution and current practices and policies. In Class:  Discuss Earth Day reflections and begin Threads of Conflict textile piece.

In Class:  Letters from Africa.  Introduction to portraiture.  Apply the half-face technique

Homework: Bring photos of the people from your tribe.  It must be a paper copy.

Wednesday

In Class:  Introduction to Through African Eyes.  Begin with drawing portfolio - exploring a variety of styles and media.  “Letters from Africa” to set the scene.  Begin to gather photos of chosen tribal area. 

 

Homework: Bring photos of Africa from home if available.  These may be found in National Geographic.  Must be hard copy and not on your computer.

In Class:  Studio day to being drawing of landscapes.

In Class:  Printing studio. Complete 4 prints (2 on colored background, 1 on white, and 1 hand altered) for printing portfolio.

In Class:  Glaze tea house and Zen garden sculpture.  Work on silk paintings.

 

In Class:  Learn basic brush strokes of Sumi-e.  Create a banner.

In Class:  Introduction to Japanese gardens.  We will teach each other about the origins and elements of the Japanese garden.  We will apply what we have learned to our own Zen Garden designs.

Printing

Week of 10.27.08

In Class:  Wednesday in class we will experience Asian cuisine and work on our final print blocks.  On Friday we will illustrate our Asian poetry using traditional brushwork.

Printing

Week of 10.6.08

In Class:  Field trip to DVAC to tour the current exhibition and the print studio.  Drivers are still needed so please contact klysne@woodlawnschool.org

 

SILK

In Class:  The Silk Road.  We will begin discussing the significance of the silk road and the characteristics of silk.  We will come up with design ideas for our silk quilt and being creating them.   We will also share our Sites and Sounds of Woodlawn pieces.

Week of 9.3.08

In class: We will share our experiences with art over the summer.  Please send photos of your summer art work or bring it to class to share.  We will take our sketchbooks around campus and create a series of drawings that capture the sites of Woodlawn.
