US President Obama's speech to the youth of America 

Tuesday- Introduction to Japan (page 1), Map of Japan (page 2) 

Wednesday- Japan Today, Pen a Journal Entry (page 3) Topic- Imagine that you are on a hike in the Japanese Alps.  Write a journal entry that describes your experiences in these mountains.  Include such things as sights, weather, vegetation and wildlife.  Use Google Images for inspiration-search Japanese Alps.

Thursday- Illustrated Japanese History Timeline (page 4), Vocabulary- Japanese History (page 5)

Friday- September 11 Commemorative Lesson

 

Week #3

Monday-  Japanese History Timeline Project- Illustrated Timeline (due Friday 9/18)

Tuesday- Graphic Organizer- The Influences of Neighboring Countries on Japan (page 1)

Wednesday- Shinto and Buddhism (page 2)/ Describe Nara-Japan's first capital city and a shrine, temple or pagoda that you would find located in Nara.  Include a sketch, if desired (page 3)

Thursday- Intoduction to Japan's Classical Period- Heian-Kyo

Friday- LIving History-"Heian Days"

ABSENT STUDENT ASSIGNMENTS FOR SS TUESDAY:  Using the internet, write a brief paragraph about the US Occupation of Japan (page 4)/Compare the Japanese made Toyota Sienna with the US made Dodge Caravan for price, quality, safety, comfort and gas milage.  Which one would you choose? Also, research Minamata Disease and write a paragraph about the cause and effect of this disease in Japan. (page 5) 

Wednesday- Japan Today/Using notecards for research and citing sources using MLA format (page 6)

ABSENT STUDENT ASSIGNMENTS FOR SS WEDNESDAY:  Use the internet to access www.japantoday.com (an online newspaper).  Find 3 news articles relating to Japan to summarize.  Answer Who? What? When? Where? Why? for each article. (page 6)

Information for the back of your Propaganda Poster (due Monday, 11/16)

- List the propaganda technique(s) you used in your poster (ex. bandwagon, fear, glittering generalities)

- List the web addresses for 3 online sources you used in your research.

- Identify the sponsor of each of the 3 online sources you used.  (Example:  www.nra.org = National Rifle Association, a United States non profit organization started in 1871 whose members are committed to training, education and marksmanship of firearms.)

   *** If you cannot find the sponsor, write "Sponsor Unknown" in that space.
