Use proper unit analysis to solve FIVE student-generated problems.

 

1.  If three people weigh 97 pounds, 112 pounds, and 67 pounds on Earth, what would be their total weight on the moon?

 

2. How many Newtons can Thomas benchpress on Mars if his maximum benchpress on Earth is 4 pounds?  There are 0.45 kg in a pound on Earth.  The gravitational constant on Mars is 0.0038 N/g.

 

3. NASA wants to launch a rocket in space from teh moon to Mars.  On Earth, it takes one ton of fuel to travel a mile and in space it takes 0.5 pounds of fuel to travel o mile.  If Mars is 50,000 miles from teh launch site on the moon, how much fuel will be needed for the trip?

 

4.  How much would William weigh on Mars if he were 130 pounds on Earth and wearing a wet jacket that is 10 pounds on Earth?

 

5.  A poiny weighs 18 stones.  How many Newtons does it weigh on the moon?

 

6.  Michael's Ferrari weighs 150 pounds (it's a toy!).  How many Newtons woul dit weigh on the moon?

 

7. At a recycling plant, aluminum cans are separated into groups to be melted down.  How much weight is removed from teh pile when 2,000 cans weighing 28,000 grams lifted away?

 

8. If you fill four olympic swimming pools with water on the moon, how many moon pounds would the water weigh?
