Algebra II

Summer Math Assignment Guidelines

·        Your summer math assignment is to complete the even-numbered exercises on pages 2 – 24 at the website:  http://www.norwinsd.org/information/SummerAssignments/MathPackets/Algebra%20II.pdf

·        The completed exercises are due the first day of the new school year.

·        You will receive a grade on this assignment.

·        Your work should be neat, legible, organized and complete.

·        Clearly label your answers.

·        Write out your steps and show your work.

·        Complete all problems without a calculator.

The summer math exercises will help you prepare for Algebra II.  They will provide you with the opportunity to reinforce your mathematical knowledge and skills that will be necessary to succeed in Algebra II.  The purpose of this assignment is that you return to school in August with a recall of the math you learned in Algebra and Geometry.  There are examples included at the beginning of each section.

Do not wait until the end of the summer to begin this assignment and do not to try to complete all the exercises at one time.  The completed assignment is due the first day of the new school year.  We will correct the problems in class during the first week of school.

In the first trimester of Algebra II, we will study linear equations and functions, systems of linear equations and inequalities, and matrices and determinants.  The second trimester will focus on quadratic, polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic functions and powers, roots, and radicals.  During the final trimester, we will concentrate on rational functions, quadratic relations and conic sections, sequences and series, and trigonometry.  Through the year, we will we use the new principles, vocabulary, and mathematical models that we learn to translate application problems to mathematical models, solve for solutions, and translate the solutions back into real-life contexts.

I am looking forward to the new school year, but first I am going to enjoy the summer.  I know you are ready for summer too.  Have fun and enjoy your summer vacation!
