6th Grade End-of-Year Checklist (for rising/current 7th graders)
Level: Part I of Spanish I
This page should be used by students who would like to review material before entering the 7th grade or by the tutors
of students that will be entering 7th Grade Spanish at Woodlawn. The following is based on the Navegando text and
Woodlawn Middle School Spanish Curriculum.
Vocabulary Topics Covered:
School – classroom supplies, subjects
Day-to-day – Greetings, Days of Week, Months, Seasons
Numbers
City – places and modes of transportation
Foods – restaurant setting, most basic meats and beverages
Family – members of
Adjectives – basic descriptive adjectives, taught in opposites, i.e. tall / short; good / bad
Verbs – infinitive forms of basic –AR, -ER, -IR verbs
Grammar:
Article / Noun Agreement
Adjective / Noun Agreement
Subject Pronouns
Conjugation of regular –AR, -ER, -IR verbs
Irregular verb meanings & conjugations of: Ser, Estar, Ir, Tener
Other 'special' verbs covered: Saber, Hacer & Ver
Overall Skills:
Sentence word order – Article + Noun + Adjective
- i.e. El carro rojo = The red car
Showing Possession with ‘de’ and not ‘s (as done in English)
Recognizing Cognates and Cognate patterns (-ción & -dad)
Telling Time
Creation of a complete sentence including an article, noun, verb and adjective.
Able to recognize and label all Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America + Spain & Equatorial Guinea on a map.
By end of 6th grade year, students should be able to answer (in a complete sentence) the following:
¿Cómo te llamas? ?Cuándo es tu cumpleaños?
¿Cómo estás? ?En qué calle vives?
¿De dónde eres? ?En qué mes estamos?
¿Cuál es la fecha hoy? ?Cómo eres?
¿Qué tiempo hace hoy? ?Cuántos años tienes?
¿Qué hora es?
*NOTE to New Students of Spanish: Trying to cover ALL of this is not absolutely necessary. Building a vocabulary foundation in a foreign language takes time, practice, and most importantly –maintenance. The most essential skill from the 6th Grade level is learning how to conjugate a verb.
