Questions naturally arise from experience with the world around us. Inquiry-based science study enables children to realize they can raise and answer questions themselves. First graders are actively engaged through hands-on and observational experiences in Science. Topics of study include: gardening, basic needs of plants, force and motion, simple machines, and an introduction to the water cycle and its critical role in our functioning earth system. Arctic animals are investigated through the project approach. Students begin to examine hibernation, migration, and adaptation within the animal kingdom. Simple machines are investigated and created using the project approach.
