This year in Language Arts, Kindergarteners explore several authors throughout the year.  Author Kevin Henkes kicks off the year with his books entitled Chrysanthemum, Owen, Sheila Rae, the Brave, Chester, and Jessica.  Lois Ehlert is another author students get to know this year.  Students connect to nature through her books, Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf, Leaf Man, Nuts to You, and In My World.  Kindergartens learn best by exploring the world around them.  Author Tana Hoban's books focus on shapes, signs, and symbols.  Another wonderful author that introduces them to many high frequency words as well as hilarious plots, is author and illustrator, Mo Williems.  They look at many of his stories including Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Look! We're in a Book!, Elephants Cannot Dance,  and many others.  Other authors introduced this year are Eric Carle, Anne Rockwell, and Marcus Pfister.
