Upper School Spanish Prerequisite: Essential Verbs
The following list of verbs should be learned prior to entering Spanish at the Upper School level at Woodlawn.
It is strongly recommended that you learn the meanings and understand the basic conjugations of these verbs.
If you are a new student to Spanish and you will be entering the Upper School at Woodlawn, it is suggested that you take this list to a tutor who can help you navigate through it. Basic Verbs:
Hablar - to talk, speak
Terminar - to finish, end
Llevar - to carry, to take
Llegar - to arrive
Tomar - to take, to drink
Acabar de - to finish doing something
Trabajar - to work
Sacar - to take out
Dar - to give
Andar - to walk
Ver - to see
Traer - to bring
Deber - should (ought to)
Hacer - to do, to make
Verbs that require pronouns:
Llamarse - to call oneself a name
Gustar - to like
Special Verbs - stem-changing, spelling change, 'yo' form change, etc:
Tener - to have
Ir - to go
Ser vs. Estar - to be ("am, is, are" in English)
Conocer - to know or be familiar with people & places
Saber - to know facts & information
Querer - to want
Venir - to come
Pedir - to ask for
Pensar - to think
Poder - to be able to ("can" in English)
Poner - to put, to place
Decir - to say, to tell
Salir - to leave, to go out
