Choose from one of the following:

Impressionism - Study of light and color en plein air.

Paint 2-3 views of the same landscapes in different lighting in your art journal using tempera paints and a view finder. Show the way it changes at different times of the day (morning and afternoon) and in different lighting (cloudy, sunny)

Expressionism - Reflect on a time of deep emotion and capture the feelings through line and color using oil pastel on construction paper.

Fauvism - Create a contour drawing of a place, person, animal or object and use color boldly! (art journal and sharpie)

Cubism -

-Draw a still-life showing all the objects from multiple viewpoints at the same time.

-Create a still life in the synthetic cubist style that explores shape, pattern and texture. Use only flat shapes, simple lines and patterns to depict them in a still life. Here are some ideas.

  • You could draw a simple outline of the objects onto brightly colored or patterned sheets of paper such as newspaper or wrapping paper. Cut these shapes out and collage them into your still life
  • Think about the negative shapes (the shapes left in the paper once you have cut your object out of it). Could you add these to your still life?
  • Look at the shadows made by the objects. How can you make these shadow shapes part of the work?
  • If your objects include text or numbers (such as the title of a book or a brand name on trainers), use numbers or letters cut from a magazine or newspaper
  • Don’t be afraid to mix media. Use marker or crayon to draw shapes or details over collage. Use paint to cover flat bright areas, or to add texture or pattern to your still life.

Surrealism

Dream Journal

  •   Door to Surrealism - create a sculpture that includes a doorway or window to a surreal world. May want to use a shoe box or build a paper frame and put objects inside of it.
  •  Doodle Characters - Create a large doodle in your journal (2 page spread) using a large sharpie.  Then create imaginary characters and images in and around the doodle.
