Seventh Grade Overview

Big Question: What does it mean to be human?

Culminating Project: Architecture as Activism

What does it mean to be human? Throughout the year, in all subject areas, students investigate this question.  They look at the varied histories, cultures, geography and current issues in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East through the perspectives of the people.  They examine the role of the individual in shaping world history and our future.  How can we use our power as individuals to make a difference?  Students design and implement an action and awareness plan utilizing sustainable architectural design to address a particular issue facing humans today.

Core Classes

  • Language Arts: In Language Arts, students are asked to consider what it might be like to see the world through another’s eyes. We begin by examining our own misconceptions about Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. More...

  • Pre-Algebra: In mathematics, students examine how individual decisions about resources can impact larger societies. For example, students create simulations based on the One-Child Policy in China to see how family planning decisions impact the growth and resources of a country. More...

These classes enrich the learning experience through a variety of topics and activities.

  • Visual Arts: Throughout history, humans have used art as a way to express who they are and what they believe in. In art class, students analyze contemporary and historical meanings in specific artworks through cultural and aesthetic inquiry. More...
