This Week. The Final Trimester...and the BEST!

Date May 18-22nd, 2015
Reading

We will continue to read and study Eric Carle books. This week we will read  A House for Hermit Crab and Rooster's Off to See the World.

We are going to begin writing our very own story in the style of Eric Carle.  We will be using a story map to help us create an original text.  We look forward to sharing our stories with you at our author's presentation.

Writing

We are practicing reading and writing sight words.  We learned last week that masking on the forehead, not such a good idea!  Hope you heard about our hilarious Head Hunting Sight Word game!  We'll do that again and many other games to help us become more confident with sight words.

The Marvelous Me will be Olivia and Nate this week!

We will study the letter Zz.

The chant -

zipping zippers

zipping zippers

z-z-z  (pretend to zip up and down a jacket)

Social Studies

Preparing for our Kindergarten Graduation is our next priority.  It's hard to believe that we are almost at the end of the year!  We will be talking about how we've grown over the next two weeks.  It's pretty amazing!

Math

What is the reason we have money and what are the values of each coin?  We will begin to explore how money works over the next two weeks.  A great idea?  Get out your wallet and show your child the coins you have.  Start practicing recognition at home.  We will also explore telling time to the hour.

Science

We are writing and observing our chickens every day!  Words you wouldn't hear in a typical Kindergarten class but happen daily here, "Oh, no fair!  I want a chicken to poop on me too!"  We write in our chicken observation journal almost daily. The chickens are growing exponentially!

Would you like to chicken sit for just a night?  Just shoot me an email!  They can spend the night with you during the school week!
