Week of March 21st

Our performance is this week! Please bring your costumes on Wednesday and practice your movement.

End of February through the middle of March

Here is the narration for the performance - Mrs. Denham will be practicing with you in Science class over the next week.

Narrator: In dance class we created our own "winged solos." To create our choreography we learned about different ways to make movement. First we had create an original phrase. The movement we picked came right from our research about our birds and the video we watched in Science class called Winged Migration. Each of us chose 4 movements that resembled our birds. You may think of some of movements are funny, its okay to laugh but do not laugh too loud!

Once we created our original phrase we learned 4 different ways to manipulate or change our movement. Our demonstrators will show you what I mean!

The first demonstrator will show their original phrase and then the manipulation. The manipulation they will show is called accumulation. Accumulation means you do the 1st movement, then the 1st and 2nd movement, then the 1st, 2nd and 3rd movement, then the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th movement.

**Demonstrator shows original phrase and then the accumulated phrase**

Narrator:   Our second manipulation is called retrograde. Retrograde means you do all the movements backwards. Lets watch our demonstrator perform their original phrase and then their retrograded phrase.

**Demonstrator shows original phrase and then the retrograded phrase**

Narrator:    Our third manipulation is called diminution. Diminution means you do all the movements very little and sometimes slow. Lets watch our demonstrator perform their original phrase and then their phrase of diminution.

**Demonstrator shows original phrase and the phrase of diminution**

Narrator:     Our fourth and last phrase manipulation is called augmentation. Augmenting a phrase means you do all the movements very large and fast! Lets watch our demonstrator perform their original phrase and then their phrase of augmentation.

**Demonstrator show original phrase and phrase of augmentation**

Narrator:     We all memorized our five phrases and in doing so we created our solo. When you watch our performance - try to pick out the different manipulations!

Week of March 7th

Write down and bring to class your Original Phrase, Accumulated Phrase, Retrograded Phrase, Augmented Phrase and Dimunized Phrase. Remember, you will be turning all five phrases into me. Scroll down for an example of what these should look like.

Below is an example of what your phrases should look like (remember, you will write down your own movement, I am using made-up movement.
