8th Grade End-of-Year Checklist (for rising 9th graders)

Level: Part I of Spanish II

This page should be used by students who would like to review material before entering the 9th grade or by the tutors of

students that will be entering 9th Spanish at Woodlawn.  The following is based on the Navegando text and Woodlawn

School's Middle School Spanish Curriculum.

Vocabulary Topics Covered:

In the Bathroom (daily routine with reflexive verbs)

the City - places, stores, neighborhood, Cardinal directions

Car parts

Zoo animals & Farm Animals

*In the Kitchen - tools & small appliances (*varies from year to year)

Grammar: This section is in addition to the previous year’s checklist.

Direct & Indirect Object Pronouns

Reflexive Verbs

Preterite Tense

Imperfect Tense

Difference between Ser & Estar (from 6/7th grades)

Overall Skills:

Students are able to write in complete sentences without difficulty.

Basic possessive pronouns/adjs. - using 'de' to show possession.

Translation of simple sentences into ‘good’ Spanish and not verbatim - following Spanish style and form.

Able to recognize and label all Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America + Spain & Equatorial Guinea on a map.

*NOTE to New Students of Spanish:  Trying to cover ALL of this is not absolutely necessary.  Building a vocabulary foundation in a foreign language takes time, practice, and most importantly –maintenance. The most essential skill from the 8th Grade level is learning how to use the Past Tense correctly.
