Introduction to the Character Sketch assignment:

 

Cather does a particularly good job of introducing characters with short (4 - 8 sentence) sketches. She gives us important details, sets characters in motion, utilizes figurative language, and gives readers a sense of the narrator's impression of the character. Your task is to write a short character sketch of someone (either from memory or from observation). Like Cather, you should:

Focus on defining characteristics (physical attributes, clothing, etc.)

Set the character in motion

Use figurative language

Communicate your own impression of the character

(One-page, double-spaced. Due Monday)
